I have been seroquel free now for almost amonth and 1/2 and I have stopped snoring, sleep walking, sleep eating, sleep talking... I am only on lithium now... and now I sleep maby 4 hours a night.... inbetween waking up every 45 minutes or so. My dreams are more vivid and lucid and trippy! I'm not sure which is worse realy! Tell me that someone in this world has got their meds straight... and hasnt had to change meds or adjust them every six fr*#=n months. I'm about convinced that they are going to change my med or dosage at least once a year for the rest of my life... Im a guinee pig!

<< I have been seroquel free now for almost amonth and 1/2 and I have stopped snoring, sleep walking, sleep eating, sleep talking... >>

Just for the record, I've been taking Seroquel at 200mg a day for 18 months, and I don't do any of that stuff.

Sleep eating sounds awful. Sorry to hear you had such a negative experience.

Lithium did nothing for me. That's why I never complained about taking it. It made the doctors feel better, and had no effect on me whatsoever.

So clearly this is a "your mileage may vary" issue.

I also take Lamictal (150mg/day) and have recently had a few manic episodes. The last serious one my doc put me on Seroquel. What a nasty experience. It made me lethargic and goofy. I wasn't manic anymore because I was more like a zombie. The worst side effect by far was that I had the most horrible nightmares I have ever had - like night terrors. On the other hand, I have heard people swear by Seroquel. I guess it is very individual. Try it and see. I always try new drugs or dosages for about 10 days. If the side effects don't abate or I don't feel any different then I tell my doc and we change it.

Glad you found us too. Welcome!

Seroquel helped me a lot. I went from taking 4 psych meds to only taking Seroquel. It calms the mania, and I think it helps the depression too. I haven't had a real manic episode since I dropped the Paxil 18 months ago and went down to only Seroquel (Paxil was aggravating the mania). Still have some mild depression but nothing too bad.

I'm taking 200mg daily right now but hope to reduce to 100mg over the next few months.

I took Lamictal, too, at one point. Couldn't tell that it helped.

    Good luck.

I've just started Seroquel recently and am now lethargic and sleeping about 15 hours a day (also been getting some nightmares). But I can't tell if this is due to the quetiapine or just my current phase?

Like everything else, once you're diagnosed bipolar... nothing can happen by chance or accident, everything is pathological... laugh and they say you are euphoric.... have a few lazy days and they tell you you're down.

Best just suck it and see.

      ;o)

Been on Seroquel for about 4 years now. LOVE it. Could never sleep before and had a lot of mania. It has kept me more balanced (along with Lamictal) than ever. I think it all depends on your individual chemistry as far as what is right to balance you. I hated Depakote and all anti-depressants AAAHHHHHH the halucinations, etc.
        Good luck!

    Seroquel is da bomb!

I've been on it for almost three years and it totally rocks (for me). Awesome for sleep. I'm on a low dose and the only side effect I've run into is a tiny bit o' weight gain, which might just be due to eating too many burritos.

When I was first diagnosed they put me on Depakote and I hated it, then a bipolar friend recommended Seroquel, I asked my doctor if I could try it, and it's been good ever since.

    Cheers!

    Hi,
I took seroquel for a while and found it very helpful in terms of mood control. I was v depressed when I started taking it- it worked in 2 days. I felt very even, although the side effects are annoying.
I took 200 mg for 2 weeks and as they use this amount as a major tranquilizer for insomnia etc it completely knocked me out. It was upped to 400mg and this was much better although I defiantely had to make sure I got LOTS of sleep after taking it, otherwise I was really zombie-ish and tired the next moring, could hardly lify my arms up!
I put on a little weight but for me that was a good thing, although i have heard of people putting on huge amunts. I think this is because it stops you feeling full, so you can control it yourself.

I was surprised at how well it woked, and so although lots of people dont like it, you have to see what works best for you, everyone is different.
    Good luck
  • I was also diagnosed two yrs. ago and I have been on everything from prozac, effxor, lamictal, lithium, and many more and now I take seroquel and it has been the best thing I have ever taken. I started out on 800mg and it will knock you on your butt and i have know idea how these people are sleep walking but your body will soon adjust and its not so intenseto sleep going . Yes, it does make me eat but i think it just me trying to stay awake. If you take it early you can wake up but take it too late youll sleep all day. Im on 600mg now and sometimes it takes me forever to go to sleep. I also am suppose to take lamictal for a mood stablizer but i have found the natural supplement St Johns wort works much better. I still have my very highs and very lows I feel there is no medication that can cure that if there is I would like to have it.
