Re: BP II
Fri, August 1, 2008 - 11:49 AMI recently got same dx, and have started Abilify about 2 months ago.. I'm on only 1 mg (1/2 of a tab) a day. I think it is helping "a little" but the dose is so small I wonder. I've definitly had a decrease (elimination even) of racing thoughts and depression isn't "so" low. I just find it hard to beleive such a low dose of anything makes a difference. One other thing - I was on Wellbutrin up until last week-- I think that was making things worse. For me, its so hard to tell what is s medication related, what is jusst a result of some hard work on my part.
Dr. wanted to put me on Depako (SP) for rapid cycling, but I am resistant. I may decide to try to get pregnant, and mood stabilizers should not be taken when pregnant. Side effects for me on Abilify have been minimal, if any. Hope this helps. -

You could think of it as a dose of 1,000,000 nanograms per day if that makes it seem bigger.
1 mg is a lot of LSD or botulism toxin.
Sometimes nature just needs a little help.
I once took 1mg of Risperidone daily and woke up on the fourth or fifth day with such distorted vision that I needed to hold on to furniture or walls to walk.
Don't discount it just because the dose seems small. Are you using any other meds? It's possible that one of those meds increases the blood levels of Abilify.
If you're fortunate enough to have a psychiatrist who listens and hears, report to him/her how your condition has improved/declined/remained the same. If something doesn't work, one hopes your doc is open to trying something more or something else.

Re: BP II
Sun, March 15, 2009 - 6:22 PMI am currently on Lamictal and have just gone up to 200mg a day, but then started getting horrible headaches, right as I really started to feel it working. Now back to 100mg, headaches gone, but not feeling the same effectiveness. Hopefully I will adjust, because it really does help.

Re: BP II
Fri, March 20, 2009 - 4:14 PMlamictal is the best drug ever! it has been my saviour ... i've been on it now since 2005 and apart from some externally-caused depressions that that became linked in to my bipoar ones, it has honestly been the only medication i would say i will never ever quit, go without, or fuck around with ... the best thing is ti have a psych whp kows you and listens, and i have one here in aust (who 1st recommended lamicatal when i got back to the states) and the second when i got bk who put me straight onto it ... i take other meds too, bt that has been my holy grail for BPII.

Re: BP II
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 9:55 PMDepakote"s my life saving drug that I couldn't do without. My life is sooo much better. Seroquel and Carbamezpine were horrible for me. I couldn't wake up on Seroquel and Carbamezapine (Tegretol) made me very sick. Lithium made me shake horribly.
